Hong Kong enjoyed the Freespace Jazz Festival this year as typhoon Trami narrowly missed our shores. Floro’s hometown in Philippines was not so fortunate and the community and band program took severe damage from flooding and people lost their schools, temples, homes and lives. @jazzfriends_orchestra will perform again tomorrow at Fountain de Chopin to fundraise for the situation in Trami. There will be music, dance, smiles, cheers and will serve as a time for us to congregate, reflect on our own blessings and give back to those in need. The jazz and tap dance show I’ve been working on the last couple years is going on the road!! It’s a very good show that has gotten multiple government grants and this week we are going on tour to Taiwan!! It’s a unique and fun gig experience combining music, tap dance, interactivity and story telling. I got the win 🥇I’m really happy, it’s hard to know what to say but for sure it’s to thank the people that helped me along this journey: my teammates and coaches at @mystudiohkofficial, the new friends and mentors I met at @sitjaopho_muaythai in Thailand, @raymond_poon_boxer who helped me with my boxing and how to get my mind and sleep right, all my friends that came to support me, and my support system throughout it all @christiepearl. In an individual sport where you get all the glory and bear all the risk yourself, it’s even more special when people help you achieve your goals out of pure generosity. I’m so grateful for the many talented and kind people deep in the fighting arts that I’ve met, I’m honoured to get to experience the culture and participate on any level, whether it’s training alongside yall or getting a taste of stepping into the ring 🙏🏼 Thank you @jonathanlausc for the photos, will post some fight footage soon!!

My favourite moments of a great day! I’ve always enjoyed watching and playing sports but the accolades associated with my career in organized athletics are: 1) Playing goalie on my primary school team because I was the worst on the team at kicking the ball. 🧤 2) Cramping at the start of a kids mountain bike race and being so slow that the semi-pro race which started later in the afternoon had caught up and were hollering at me to get out the way. 🦵 3) Quitting in the middle of a breaststroke semifinal at my secondary school swim meet because I gassed myself out. 🩲 4) Rode the bench on a little league team in which the parents of the other kids were proud of me for trying baseball for the first time at such a late stage. 🪑 It took 35 years to do get a W but it was worth the wait to do it in a ring. 🥊🥇 Full match is posted too, it’s actually a pretty entertaining fight, I almost let it slip away in the last round but came back to secure the win in the last few seconds. #kickboxing #boxing #interclub #smoker #fight #muaythai #hongkong #天外飛仙 @nowhereboyshk

I’m so honoured to walk a bit of the trail they blazed. Nothing better than some good ol foot tapping, hard swinging music to bring people together.
The full match! It was a great fight, my opponent was coming forward the whole time and it was really exhausting trying to evade the pressure, I was able to land some shots but couldn’t get grounded to throw with enough power to stop him walking forward. I felt relatively calm, but not really consistently enough to play any game, I felt mostly reactive in there. He was good at cutting off the ring the whole time and in the third round he had me on the ropes for a LONG time, but by the grace of God I just started to land a lot of shots in the last 15 seconds and got the momentum back to secure the fight 🙏🏼 Crowd was going nuts man… thrill of a lifetime 😭🤯

Second leg of Greece tour brought us to the beautiful coastal city of Preveza. It’s was absolutely picturesque, we arrived during siesta and the town was asleep, like walking through a fairy tale, as the evening drew nearer the boardwalk and alleys filled with life. ☀️ We had a a great show and the music, environment and people were all perfect. 🇬🇷 From leaving the festival hotel, it was a 25hr journey back home, I thought the adventure was drawing to a close as i boarded the van at 2am but on one of my layovers I paid for storage at the airport grabbed a taxi and hoped out to the beach for a quick snooze and breakfast! The first leg of Greece tour with @dock_in_absolute. Hong Kong ➡️ Greece ➡️ Athens Jazz Festival all happened on the first day. Second day was a day off and we did a bit of sight seeing at Acropolis and ate Greek food and listened to Greek music! 🇬🇷 I only get to hang with Jean Phillipe and David a few times a year but it’s always a brilliant hang and we get on great right away! Just wrapped on the second half of the Rais Khan Adventure. After composing and arranging six songs in the desert we headed to Mumbai to Island City Studios where we spent four 12 hour days, full throttle working as fast as we could to finish the album and the results are beautiful; raw in heart and emotion, precise and accurate in performance 🔥 These guys have unbelievable chops and soul, the level of teamwork and passion was unparalleled, thank you guys for your love and expertise. I can’t wait for the album to be out 🧡🤍💚

I’m in the midst of one of the most special moments ever for me. I’ve traveled to Jaisalmer, India to the home of @khanrais_ and his family in Tahr Desert about two hours away from the closest city. His home is gorgeous and his family even more amazing, they welcomed us with open hearts and I left a piece of mine there forever. We set a goal of writing/arranging 6 songs over 3 days which we accomplished fuelled by amazing home cooking and lots of chai. Back to school! 🎒 Happy and excited to start a new semester at Baptist University @bmus.stage . Met my class today and I can tell it’s going to be fun! Every semester I fine tune my class and add aspects I think are interesting and will help my students understand music. In addition to a focus on mastering and executing the 16th note grid, this semester we’ll also emphasise how these rhythms make you feel emotionally. We all acknowledge that some chords sound happy, and some are sad but we lack descriptors for grooves and rhythms. How about stable/unstable, spacious/cluttered, peaceful/agitating. By organising your thoughts on how rhythms make you feel, you can effectively use them in your compositions and improvisations to manipulate the emotion of the music and listener. Nothing but love for my tour mates. 6 days, three very successful gigs and one unforgettable one… non stop banter and many many laughs. I’m turning 34 next week, nothing makes you feel more young then being forced to be with a new group of people, becoming great friends, exploring the world and manoeuvring the trials and tribulations along the way with a sense of childlike wonderment you only get from experiencing things for the first time. It’s like that feeling we had when we went to camp as kids, and not many adults get to experience anymore.
